Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding the symbolic meanings present in the Banyuwangi sea harvest ritual in Muncar District, as part of preserving traditions while explaining the existing symbols. The objective of this study is to analyze the process of cultural communication that occurs within the sea harvest ritual and to explain the symbolic meanings expressed in the ritual This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method; data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and the drawing of interpretive conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the Petik Laut ritual is a form of symbolic communication that integrates verbal and nonverbal messages to convey meaning, symbols, values, norms, and the identity of the Muncar community. In addition to serving as a medium for cultural preservation, this ritual functions as a means to strengthen social bonds and promote cultural identity within the context of tourism.
