Abstract
Background: The art of diba’an al-banjari is a religious tradition of the Madurese people and has become an intergral part of their religious practice. Diba’an al-banjari combines the chanting of prayers with the playing of tambourines, serving not only as entertainment but also as medium for conveying Islamic values and strengthening the community’s spirituality and social solidarity. Research Objectives: This research aims to describe the messages of da’wah conveyed in the art of diba’an al-banjari, and to understand how the audience interprets these messages as a medium of da’wah communication in Madurese society, especially in Seddur Village, Pakong District, Pamekasan Regency. Methods: This research used a qualitative approach with an interpretivist constructivism paradigm and a case study method. Data collection was conducted through open-ended interviews and direct observation of actors and audiences in the diba’an al-banjari in Seddur village. The data in this study were analyzed using pattern matching techniques to compare the patterns of empirical findings with relevant concepts of da’wah communication. Results: This study shows that the art of diba’an al-banjari contains various messages of da’wah which include the values of faith, love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW, a call to noble character and strengthening of Islamic brotherhood. These messages are conveyed through sholawat lyrics and religious music performances that are easily accepted by the community. The audience interprets diba’an al-banjari activities not only as a religious tradition but also as a medium for learning Islamic values, a means of friendship, and strengthening the religious identity of the community. Therefore, the art of diba’an al-banjari continues to exist as an effective da’wah communication medium in maintaining and strengthening Islamic values among the Madurese community.
