Abstract

The city of Banjarbaru has been designated as the capital of South Kalimantan Province, which has led to an increasing demand for transportation infrastructure to support interregional connectivity. To address this need, the construction of the Banjarbaru–Batulicin road, with a total length of 5 km, is planned. However, the high accident rate along existing alternative routes indicates the necessity for improved technical planning, particularly in terms of road geometric design, pavement structure, drainage systems, and cost estimation. This study aims to design the road geometry, pavement structure, drainage system, and cost estimate for the Banjarbaru–Batulicin road in accordance with technical standards. The methodology used includes a literature review and analysis of primary data obtained from the Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR), including Average Daily Traffic (ADT), subgrade CBR values, and rainfall data. The planning process covers geometric road analysis (horizontal and vertical alignment), flexible pavement thickness design based on CESA values, drainage design using hydrological analysis, as well as the preparation of the Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures. The results show that the horizontal alignment consists of 9 curves, while the vertical alignment produces a cut volume of 69,314.73 m³ and a fill volume of 94,263.59 m³. The pavement structure uses flexible pavement, consisting of a 4 cm Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course (AC-WC), 6 cm Asphalt Concrete Binder Course (AC-BC), 30 cm Cement Treated Base (CTB), 15 cm Class B base course, 20 cm Class C base course, and a 60 cm selected fill layer above the subgrade. The drainage system is designed using rectangular stone masonry channels with dimensional variations based on the Log Pearson Type III distribution. The total estimated project cost is IDR 50,753,548,205.26.
