Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of connecting science learning materials with local wisdom (ethnoscience) through scientific procedures to create more meaningful and contextual learning experiences and to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and cultural appreciation. The objectives of this study were: (1) to design a Think Pair Share (TPS) model based on a scientific approach and ethnoscience for biology students in higher education, and (2) to produce a TPS model based on a scientific approach and ethnoscience that is valid, practical, and effective. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. The study was conducted at the Biology Education Study Program, Universitas Lancang Kuning. The data were obtained from primary sources, including data collected through research instruments, direct observation of students, and interviews with lecturers. Data collection procedures included observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques through the SPSS application. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the design of the Think Pair Share learning model based on a scientific approach and ethnoscience was developed after completing the analysis phase, which included curriculum analysis, needs analysis, student characteristic analysis, and problem analysis faced by students. Based on these analyses, the TPS learning model integrated with a scientific approach and ethnoscience was designed to improve students’ understanding of biological concepts. (2) The integrated think pair share model was declared valid, practical, and effective. The characteristics of the scientific and ethnoscience integrated think pair share model are declared valid with an average value of 4.21 for the model book, 4.33 or very valid for the lecturer's book, and 4.31 for the student's book. The think pair share model was declared practical with a value of 4.12 for the model book, 4.33 or very practical for the lecturer's book, and 4.36 or very practical for the student's book. The effectiveness of the Think pair share learning model integrated with the scientific and ethnoscience approach is declared effective for use. Based on the results of the t-test, the results obtained were that t count > t table, namely 4.697 > 1.69 and a significance level < 0.05, namely 0.000, so it can be concluded that the hypothesis H1 is accepted or H0 is rejected, which means that between the experimental class using the TPS-T Sciento learning model compared to the control class without using the TPS-T Sciento learning model. This model is declared valid, practical and effective by experts.
