Abstract
Long distance marriage (LDM) is a form of long-distance relationship resulting from work and economic demands. Although this situation has the potential to lead to conflict and even divorce, there are families that are able to survive and demonstrate resilience, particularly among millennial families who are still in the early stages of adjusting to their roles and economic conditions. The objective of this study is to identify and understand the efforts made by millennial mothers to achieve family resilience in long-distance marriage situations in Malang City. The method used is a qualitative approach employing a case study design, involving seven families as research subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Family resilience in this study was examined from several aspects, namely the couple’s understanding of the long-distance marriage (LDM) situation, which indicates that LDM is viewed as a natural consequence of life that must be endured. Additionally, the underlying factors contributing to the occurrence of LDM were predominantly driven by economic demands and work-related pressures. Issues and challenges that highlight the limitations of face-to-face interaction, an unbalanced division of roles, and the potential for conflict due to limited communication. And resilience efforts to maintain stability and
preserve harmony, such as maintaining frequent communication, building trust, upholding commitments, and utilizing technology as a means of communication. Analysis using the AGIL framework shows that families are able to perform adaptive functions by adjusting to longdistance conditions, achieving goals through a commitment to maintaining family unity, integrating through communication and trust between partners, and maintaining patterns through values, norms, and principles in marriage. Thus, family resilience in long-distance marriages can be realized if families are able to perform these functions in a balanced manner.
