Abstract
Uncertainty in social and cultural contexts, as well as the transition between the academic and professional worlds, is a major source of future anxiety among Gen Z students. This study aims to examine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety among Gen Z students. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study sample consisted of 216 active Gen Z students born between 1997 and 2012, selected through incidental sampling. The research instruments used the IUS-12 scale for the intolerance of uncertainty variable and a future anxiety scale, both of which had been tested for validity and reliability, and were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient in the Jamovi application. The results showed that the majority of respondents had high levels of intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety. There is a significant positive relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and future anxiety, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.395 and a significance level of p < 0.001. The findings of this study indicate that the higher a person’s level of intolerance of uncertainty, the higher their future anxiety among Gen Z students, and vice versa. Based on these findings, preventive measures such as psychoeducation regarding adaptive coping strategies and emotional regulation can be implemented to maintain students’ mental health.
