Abstract
Emerging adulthood is a transitional phase toward adulthood that often involves various developmental demands which may influence life satisfaction. One personality factor that may affect life satisfaction is perfectionism, which consists of adaptive and maladaptive forms. This study aims to examine the effect of perfectionism on life satisfaction among individuals in emerging adulthood in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 374 respondents aged 18–29 years obtained through convenience sampling. Data were collected using Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that adaptive perfectionism had a significant positive effect (p=0,027) on life satisfaction, whereas maladaptive perfectionism had a significant negative effect (p<0,001) on life satisfaction. Furthermore, adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism simultaneously explained 8.43% of the variance in life satisfaction.. Therefore, strengthening self-esteem and social support may help emerging adults manage perfectionistic tendencies more adaptively.
