Abstract

The development of real-time interactive applications in Unity, particularly those involving the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) for chatbots, faces a fundamental challenge in managing asynchronous communication due to Unity's single main thread architecture. This research proposes and investigates the implementation of a Reactive Pattern as a core architectural solution to address this issue, enabling responsive and non-blocking communication. The system utilizes the WebSocket protocol for interaction with the Llama 3.2 LLM (specifically, the fine-tuned sampri-custom:latest model) accessed via Ollama. WebSocket is chosen for its technical characteristics that inherently support low-latency, full-duplex communication and data streaming, which are essential for dynamic LLM interactions. The primary focus of the research is on the design, implementation, and analysis of the effectiveness of the Reactive Pattern in leveraging these WebSocket advantages within the Unity environment, to ensure optimal interaction with the LLM without sacrificing application responsiveness. The main contribution of this research is the provision of an architectural guide and implementation analysis of the Reactive Pattern in the specific context of Unity- WebSocket-LLM. The expected outcome is a stable and responsive chatbot system, demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed architectural approach
