ANALISIS FAKTOR MOTIVASIONAL DALAM PEMILIHAN MATA KULIAH BAHASA INDONESIA: STUDI PCA PADA MAHASISWA STUDI ASIA TENGGARA UNIVERSITAS TERBUKA KOTA HO CHI MINH

The selection of Indonesian language courses by students in non-language study programs is often simply understood as a consequence of curricular requirements, so that the motivational structure underlying these academic decisions has not been empirically studied. This study aims to identify and analyze the motivational factors that influence the selection of Indonesian language courses by Southeast Asian Studies students at the Open University of Ho Chi Minh City through the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) approach. The study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design. Quantitative data were obtained through a closed questionnaire distributed to 33 B1-level BIPA students, all of whom were used as research subjects. Data analysis was performed using PCA to reduce motivational indicators into main latent factors, which were then interpreted analytically with the support of qualitative data in the form of interviews, observations, and academic documentation. The results of the study indicate that the selection of Indonesian language courses is influenced by a multidimensional motivational structure that is relatively balanced between factors, without any one dominant factor standing alone. These findings indicate that student motivation is formed from the integration of intrinsic drives, academic considerations, career orientation, and cross-cultural learning contexts. The study concludes that understanding the complete and empirically based motivational factor structure can be an important foundation for developing academic policies and designing Indonesian language courses that are more relevant, contextual, and oriented towards student needs.
