Abstract

This study aims to implement and analyze the application of Progressive Web Apps (PWA) on the COE website of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang by utilizing a multi-caching approach to improve performance and access reliability. The PWA implementation was carried out through the development of a Web App Manifest, Application Shell, and Service Worker that integrates several caching strategies, namely Cache-First, Network-First, Stale-While-Revalidate, Cache-Only, and Network-Only, according to the characteristics of the website resources. The research employed an implementation-based method and technical testing using Lighthouse (CLI) for performance auditing, as well as functional testing through Chrome DevTools to validate caching mechanisms and offline access capabilities. The testing results indicate that the website was successfully registered as a PWA, achieving Lighthouse scores of 82 for Performance, 73 for Accessibility, 100 for Best Practices, and 73 for SEO. Manual validation shows that 12 out of 13 PWA criteria were fulfilled, with the absence of a maskable icon in the manifest as the remaining limitation. Functional testing demonstrates that the multi-caching strategy improves page loading speed and enables access to previously visited pages in offline conditions by 89%. Therefore, the implementation of PWA using a multi-caching approach effectively enhances access efficiency, bandwidth optimization, and system resilience against network disruptions. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for developing PWA-based websites to improve service quality and user experience.
