Abstract
Learning media is a tool to bridge material for students. The use of concrete media is important for lower-level students because it helps explain abstract concepts into concrete so that concrete media is a suitable media for lower-grade students. This study aims to determine: (1) the development of "Calcu Stick" media on addition and subtraction material for class 2 of SDN Junrejo 01 Batu City, and (2) the effectiveness of "Calcu Stick" media on addition and subtraction material for class 2 of SDN Junrejo 01 Batu City.
The research and development was conducted using the ADDIE model with 5 stages, namely Analysis, Planning (Design), Development (Development), Implementation (Implementation), and Evaluation (Evaluation). The research was conducted on February 10-11, 2026 at SDN Junrejo 01, Batu City, on 26 second-grade students. Before implementation, the researcher first conducted a validation test to determine the level of media feasibility. Validation was carried out on material experts and media experts.
The "Calcu Stick" media was developed from cardboard shaped into a foldable board containing stacked addition and subtraction tools. The media is used to help students understand the concept of stacked addition and subtraction, especially in single digit numbers, so that students can move on to the next material well because they already understand basic mathematical concepts. The results of the study showed (1) the percentage results of media validation were 82% and material validation was 96%, which concluded that the media was suitable for implementation, (2) the average results of the student response questionnaire were 93% and the teacher response questionnaire was 100%, and (3) the results of the effectiveness test using the N-Gain formula pretest 31.8, and the average posttest 73.2. The results of the calculation of the completeness of student learning outcomes were 50% with the results of learning improvement obtaining 0.6 with the qualification of the effectiveness level "High".
