Abstract
This research aimed to design and develop an internship framework aligned with industry needs and to evaluate its effectiveness in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Riau Kepulauan. The novelty of this research lies in the development of a work-based learning, workplace learning, and experiential learning model, operationalized through a practical internship guidebook. This study employed a Research & Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The trial subjects were fifth-semester Mechanical Engineering students at Universitas Riau Kepulauan. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, and analyzed using content and construct validation, feasibility assessment, and effectiveness evaluation through a quantitative Likert-scale approach and descriptive qualitative analysis. The resulting framework was validated by content and media experts and tested through limited and extended trials. Results indicated: 1) students’ perceptions of career development in Mechanical Engineering scored 85,33%, reflecting very positive attitudes; 2) the developed internship framework proved effective, as reflected in the guidebook, with content and media validity scores of 87,60% and 88,89%, feasibility scores of 88,79% in limited trials, and extended trial scores averaging 91,40% for students, 92,29% for academic supervisors, and 90,73% for field supervisors; 3) overall effectiveness of the framework reached 91,73%. This study contributes a systematic, work-based internship framework and an operational guide that can serve as a reference for practical learning, enhancing the career readiness of Mechanical Engineering students.
