Abstract

This study aims to analyze the grief process in early adulthood after the loss of a parent and examine the peer support model in fostering resilience at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study of five students selected through snowball sampling. Data collection was conducted through in depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that peer support encompasses emotional, instrumental, informational, and appreciation support, with interaction mechanisms such as presence, communication, and shared activities. Emotional support is the most dominant form in helping individuals manage emotions and adapt to loss. The grieving process varies, generally progressing through stages of denial, confusion, deep sadness, and acceptance. There are gender differences in responses, with women being more expressive, while men tend to internalize emotions. Resilience develops gradually through internal and external factors. Some subjects demonstrated adaptive resilience, while others remained low. At the end of the study, a pseudo resilience phenomenon was found in one subject. Furthermore, not all individuals are able to recover independently, so in certain circumstances, expert assistance is still needed to support optimal psychological recovery.
