Abstract
The mining industry faces increasing pressure to balance productivity with environmental sustainability, particularly in operational environments characterized by strict procedures and high ecological risk. Leadership plays a crucial role in shaping environmentally responsible behavior and organizational performance. This study examines the relationship between green leadership and green performance, with green mindfulness positioned as an intervening variable among employees of PT Hillconjaya Sakti Site Borneo Prima. An explanatory research design with a quantitative approach was employed. The population consisted of employees from the Logistics, SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment), and Operational Departments, and total sampling was applied. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS).
The findings reveal that green leadership has a significant direct effect on green performance and on green mindfulness. However, green mindfulness does not significantly influence green performance and fails to mediate the relationship between green leadership and green performance. The model demonstrates strong explanatory power for both green mindfulness and green performance.
These results indicate that in highly structured mining operations, environmental performance is more strongly driven by direct leadership control and enforcement mechanisms than by employees’ internal environmental awareness. The study contributes theoretically by extending green leadership research to the mining sector and offers practical implications for strengthening sustainability-oriented leadership practices in industrial organizations.
