Abstract
Rapid technological development can be utilized by students to facilitate learning and access information more easily. However, the inappropriate use of technology may become an obstacle for students in completing their school assignments. This study aims to determine the effect of smartphone addiction on academic procrastination among private junior high school students in Pasuruan City. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample was taken from two private junior high schools in Pasuruan City with a total of 172 respondents selected using the cluster sampling technique. The instruments used to measure smartphone addiction was the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), while academic procrastination was measured using the Academic Procrastination Scale-Short Form (APS-S). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results indicate that smartphone addiction has a significant effect on academic procrastination with a value of p<0.001 and a contribution of 21.6% among private junior high school students in Pasuruan City. The results of this study imply the importance of a collaborative role between schools and parents in supervising and mentoring the duration of smartphone use to reduce academic procrastination rates among students.
