Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of spiritual therapy programs and analyze their impact on the understanding of Islamic values and behavioral changes among Muslim inmates at Class 1A Malang Correctional Institution. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The spiritual therapy programs implemented include congregational prayers, Qur’anic education, religious lectures, dhikr and sholawat gatherings, and Islamic boarding school–based activities within the prison. The results show that spiritual therapy has a positive impact on improving inmates’ understanding of Islamic values such as faith, piety, honesty, patience, and responsibility. In addition, inmates demonstrate positive behavioral changes, including increased discipline, greater commitment to worship, improved self-control, and stronger moral awareness to avoid repeating criminal acts. Spiritual therapy also helps inmates find meaning in life, achieve inner peace, and develop a more positive self-concept as preparation for reintegration into society.
