Abstract
The rise of social media has driven changes in how the media presents news, including Kompas’s coverage of the Mass Protest Against the 2025 Parliamentary Allowances. This study aims to identify differences in the structure, comprehensiveness, and presentation of news between the Kompas newspaper and the @hariankompas Instagram account. This study employs Roger Fidler’s Mediamorphosis theory to explain the evolution of print media toward digital formats, as well as Henry Jenkins’ Media Convergence theory to examine how content moves and adapts across platforms.
This study adopts a quantitative content analysis approach grounded in positivism, using a sample of 10 Kompas newspaper articles and 10 Instagram posts. The units of analysis include headlines, leads, perspectives, and the 5W+1H formula. Data were collected through digital documentation and analyzed using structured categories, with reliability tested via Holsti’s formula, yielding an average CR value of 0.9 (very high).
The results indicate substantial changes on Instagram, specifically the use of long headlines of ≥8 words (60% on Instagram vs. 20% in newspapers) and the dominance of a persuasive tone (60% on Instagram vs. 50% in newspapers), the dominance of short opening paragraphs of ≤2 sentences (50% vs. 40% in newspapers), a perspective that emphasizes human interest more prominently (30% vs. 20% in newspapers), as well as a reduction in the completeness of the 5W+1H elements, particularly regarding the “Where” (40% vs. 70%), ‘Why’ (50% vs. 80%), and “How” (50% vs. 90%) components. These findings confirm that the process of media metamorphosis and adaptive media convergence.
