Abstract
This study aimed to explore the use of YouTube and dialogue booklets in improving students’ English speaking skills, examine teachers’ experiences in implementing these media, and investigate students’ responses in terms of confidence and motivation. This study employed a qualitative case study design and was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Tugumulyo, Musi Rawas Regency. The participants consisted of eleventh-grade students and English teachers. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns related to students’ perceptions, participation in speaking activities, teachers’ instructional experiences, and affective outcomes. The findings showed that YouTube provided students with authentic language input and helped improve pronunciation, vocabulary use, and speaking confidence. Dialogue booklets supported structured speaking practice and encouraged active participation through pair work and role¬play activities. Teachers reported that the integration of digital and non-digital media created a more engaging and supportive learning environment, although challenges related to technological limitations and classroom management were also identified. In addition, the combined use of YouTube and dialogue booklets positively influenced students’ motivation and confidence in speaking English. In conclusion, the integration of YouTube and dialogue booklets effectively supported the development of students’ speaking skills by providing authentic input, structured practice, and a low-anxiety learning environment. This instructional approach was found to be suitable for EFL classrooms, particularly in contexts with limited technological resources.
