Abstract
Jak-Japan Matsuri is a cultural festival initiated by Japan to promote its culture in Indonesia by showcasing both Japanese and Indonesian cultural elements. The festival was first held in 2009 and has since been conducted annually. However, its implementation was temporarily suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze Japan’s cultural diplomacy efforts in Indonesia through the organization of Jak-Japan Matsuri from 2023 to 2025. The analysis applies the concept of cultural diplomacy in the form of exhibitions by identifying the actors involved, examining the types of activities carried out, and explaining the forms of cooperation established. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing data collection techniques in the form of literature review and secondary data sources. The findings reveal that Japan’s cultural diplomacy efforts through Jak-Japan Matsuri 2023–2025 are implemented by presenting diverse cultural aspects and involving various stakeholders, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, as well as Japanese and Indonesian communities. Furthermore, the festival reflects the development of bilateral cooperation resulting from the implementation of Jak-Japan Matsuri in Indonesia.
