Abstract

The wood-processing industry faces significant challenges in maintaining consistent quality of Engineered Wood Flooring (EWF) products, particularly in the lamination process which is prone to various types of defects. This study aims to analyze the defect rate of the EWF lamination process at PT Layo Seng Fong using the Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method and in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 standard. Production data from January to September 2025 were collected through direct observation and interviews with production and quality control personnel. The results show that the lamination process performance is at an average sigma level of 4.33 with a DPMO (Defects Per Million Opportunities) value of 4.441. Pareto analysis identified five dominant defect types contributing 86.07% of total rejections: delamination (26.66%), press marks (26.50%), dimensional problems (13.44%), surface fiber damage (9.78%), and putty stains (9.69%). The Fishbone diagram revealed that the main causes include inconsistency in hot press machine parameters (Machine: 30%), adhesive batch variation (Material: 25%), incoming material variation (Material: 20%), operator error (Man: 15%), and environmental condition changes (Environment: 10%). Improvement strategies focus on standardizing critical parameters, optimizing press pressure and duration, tightening adhesive quality control, and operator training.
