Abstract

Differences in rearing position are assumed to be related to variations in the microclimate conditions of the poultry house, particularly temperature, humidity, and air velocity during the rearing period. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the placement of Isa Brown laying hens between the middle and side rows on growth rate and uniformity in a closed house battery cage system. The study used 108 Isa Brown laying hens aged 42 days (week 6) that were reared until 77 days of age (week 11). The research employed an observational method with a comparative approach without any specific treatment. The rearing rows (middle and side) were considered the independent variable, while the variables observed in this study were growth rate and uniformity. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the values of growth rate and uniformity between the rearing rows. The results showed that the middle row had a growth rate of 15.9% and uniformity of 97%, while the side row had a growth rate of 15.6% and uniformity of 95%. Based on the results, it can be concluded that placement in the middle row tends to produce better growth rate and uniformity compared to the side row in a closed house system.
