Abstract

Quarter-life crisis is a psychological phenomenon commonly experienced by young adults due to developmental demands and uncertainty about the future. Family support is assumed to play a role in reducing quarter-life crisis, with emotional intelligence acting as a mediator because external support from family does not directly alleviate the crisis, but is first processed through an individual’s ability to understand, manage, and regulate emotions. Thus, emotional intelligence explains the psychological mechanism through which family support is internalized into adaptive responses to developmental pressures. This study aims to examine the effect of family support on quarter-life crisis in young adults, with emotional intelligence as a mediating variable. This research employed a quantitative explanatory approach involving 319 young adults aged 20-29 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using regression and mediation analysis through JASP. The results indicate that family support has a negative effect on quarter-life crisis, both directly and indirectly through emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence was found to function as a partial mediator. These findings suggest that family support and emotional intelligence serve as protective factors in helping young adults cope more adaptively with developmental pressures.
