Abstract

In Indonesian language learning, students at SDN 2 Mrayan, Ponorogo still experience suboptimal learning motivation, especially in writing skills, so there is a need for improvement through a new approach to learning. This study aims to analyze: (1) the differences in Indonesian language learning motivation among fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Mrayan before and after the implementation of the deep learning approach, (2) the differences in Indonesian language learning outcomes specifically in descriptive paragraph writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Mrayan before and after the implementation of the deep learning approach, (3) the effect of the deep learning approach on motivation and learning outcomes in Indonesian regarding the descriptive paragraph writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Mrayan.
This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 26 fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Mrayan in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study was conducted in January and February 2026 in three stages, namely pretest, treatment, and posttest. The pretest stage was carried out by collecting data before the treatment, the treatment stage was carried out by researchers consisting of learning with a deep learning approach in three meetings, and the posttest stage was carried out by collecting data after the treatment. The research instruments were a learning motivation questionnaire and a descriptive paragraph writing test. Based on the characteristics of the data, the results of the data collection were analysed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the Paired Sample t-Test, simple linear regression analysis, and effect size.
The results showed that there was a significant difference between before and after the application of the deep learning approach based on the Wilcoxon test on learning motivation (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05) and the Paired Sample t-Test on learning outcomes (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). The results of the linear regression analysis showed that the deep learning approach did not have a significant effect on increasing learning motivation or learning outcomes, with a Sig. value > 0.05. However, the effect size calculation results show a large category, indicating that the application of deep learning has a strong impact on increasing the motivation and learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Mrayan.
