HUBUNGAN BERAT BEBAN TAS TERHADA MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS (MSD’s) PADA PELAJAR SMA TAMAN MADYA KOTA MALANG

Introduction: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a common health problem experienced by students due to non-ergonomic school activities, one of which is carrying excessively heavy school bags. Carrying loads that exceed safe limits can cause muscle strain, postural changes, and lead to musculoskeletal pain complaints. This study aims to determine the relationship between school bag weight and the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) among students of SMA Taman Madya, Malang City.

Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design using a cross-sectional method. The sample consisted of 20 students aged 17–18 years from SMA Taman Madya, Malang City, selected using purposive sampling technique. School bag weight was measured using a digital scale, while MSD complaints were assessed using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods, with the Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between independent and dependent variables.

Results: The results showed that most respondents carried school bags exceeding the recommended weight limits and experienced MSD complaints ranging from mild to moderate risk levels. The Pearson correlation test indicated a significant relationship between school bag weight and the incidence of MSDs among students of SMA Taman Madya, Malang City (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between school bag weight and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) among students of SMA Taman Madya, Malang City.
