Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and determine the effect of different egg storage durations on hatchability and embryonic mortality during the incubation period. The research material consisted of hatching eggs from 30-week-old Isa Brown layer parent stock with egg weights ranging from 54–80 grams, clean condition, free from cracks, and with normal shell quality. The study employed an experimental method with two treatment levels, namely eggs stored for 3 days (P1) and 8 days (P2). Each treatment was replicated 30 times, resulting in 60 experimental units with a total of 9,000 eggs. The observed variables included hatchability and embryonic mortality. Data were analyzed using an Independent Sample t-test at a significance level α = 0.05. The results showed that egg storage duration had a significant effect (P<0.05) on hatchability and embryonic mortality. Eggs stored for 3 days exhibited higher hatchability percentages and lower embryonic mortality compared to eggs stored for 8 days. It can be concluded that longer egg storage prior to incubation reduces internal egg quality, leading to increased embryonic mortality and decreased hatchability.
