STUDI KOMPARATIF KUALITAS EMBRIO LAYAK TRANSFER PADA SAPI DONOR LIMOUSIN DAN PERANAKAN ONGOLE DI BALAI EMBRIO TERNAK KABUPATEN BOGOR

In vivo embryo production technology through the Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MOET) program is a crucial strategy for accelerating genetic improvement in livestock, yet its success is heavily dependent on the superovulatory response and embryo quality of different donor cattle breeds. This study aimed to analyze and compare the quantity and quality of Transferable Embryos (TE) from Limousin and Peranakan Ongole (PO) donor cows at the Cipelang Livestock Embryo Center. A retrospective observational method was employed using embryo production data from 2024 to 2025, with samples analyzed through the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test. The results revealed a significant difference (P < 0.05) in total embryo production, where PO cows produced an average of 11.80 embryos per flushing, significantly higher than the 7.15 embryos produced by Limousin cows. However, regarding the quality of transferable embryos (Grades 1-3), no significant difference (P > 0.05) was found between the two breeds, with averages of 4.35 for PO and 4.10 for Limousin. The high total embryo count in PO cows was dominated by Non-Transferable Embryos (NTE), which averaged 7.45, whereas Limousin cows demonstrated more consistent and stable production, indicated by a higher median TE value (4.00) compared to PO cows (1.50). It is concluded that while PO cows exhibit a superior quantitative superovulatory response, Limousin cows provide better effectiveness and consistency in supplying transferable embryos for national distribution programs.
