Abstract
Innovative learning media is a crucial strategy for improving the quality of learning in elementary schools. Lack of student motivation and active engagement often hinders optimal achievement of learning objectives. This study aims to develop and produce role-card-based gamification learning media to improve student speaking skills and active engagement in the learning process. This study employed a 4D Research and Development (R&D) model consisting of the definition, design, development, and dissemination stages. The study was conducted at SDN Mojolangu 1 Malang, involving fourth-grade teachers and fourth-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation, then analyzed using qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques. The research results show that the implementation of role card-based gamification media can improve speaking skills and learning motivation while strengthening students' active involvement in learning activities. This is evident in increased activeness, participation, and the establishment of more positive interactions between students and teachers and between students. Students also show greater enthusiasm, increased self-confidence, and courage in expressing ideas, while being more involved at every stage of the learning process. In addition, this media helps teachers present more interactive, diverse, and engaging learning, so that the learning process becomes more effective, provides meaningful experiences, and supports the optimal achievement of learning objectives. This media also provides opportunities for students to practice speaking skills in a more focused manner.
