Abstract

Adolescence is a complex and important transitional period in human life, during which significant physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional changes occur. One important aspect that develops during this period is empathy, which is the foundation for the ability to establish healthy social relationships. This study aims to determine the relationship between paternal involvement in parenting and empathy levels in adolescents. The study was conducted using a quantitative correlational approach on 512 adolescents aged 12-21 years selected through accidental sampling. Paternal involvement was measured using the Father Involvement Scale developed by Linarki using Lamb's theory with a self-report method and a high reliability value of 0.970. Meanwhile, empathy was measured using the Empathy Assessment Scale by Cem Malakcıoğlu with a high reliability value of 0.845. Data analysis was performed using a Pearson correlation test. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between paternal involvement in parenting and adolescent empathy (r=0.182; p=0.001). These findings confirm that the active role of fathers in parenting contributes significantly to the development of empathy and the social-emotional well-being of adolescents.
