Abstract
Abstract. This study was motivated by the rising phenomenon of online game addiction
among adolescents, which disrupts their academic, social, and emotional functioning. The
purpose of this research was to determine the differences in online game addiction levels and
self-control abilities between adolescents who received self-control training and those who
did not. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using
a non-equivalent control group design. Participants consisted of ten junior high school
students divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using a self-
control scale and an online game addiction scale, analyzed through the Independent Sample
t-Test. The results revealed a significant difference in online game addiction levels between
the two groups after the training (p = 0.014), where the experimental group showed a greater
reduction in addiction scores. However, there was no significant difference in self-control
levels (p = 0.590). These findings indicate that the self-control training produced a
behavioral difference in online gaming addiction but did not significantly improve self-
control abilities.
