Abstract
Academic procrastination remains prevalent among senior high school students in the digital era. This phenomenon is closely related to the development of technology, particularly the internet, which has become an integral part of students’ daily activities. Nevertheless, the advancement of internet technology does not always produce positive outcomes, as excessive use may lead to internet addiction and be associated with academic procrastination. This study aims to examine the relationship between internet addiction and academic procrastination among students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngimbang, Lamongan Regency. The increasing use of the internet among rural adolescents is assumed to influence learning
behavior and academic time management. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach using an accidental sampling technique involving 342 students aged 16–19 years. The instruments used were the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) to measure internet and the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS) to measure academic procrastination. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The results revealed a significant negative correlation (r = –0.332; p < .001) between internet addiction and academic procrastination. This indicates that the higher the students’ internet addiction level, the lower their tendency
to delay academic tasks. The results suggest that the proposed hypothesis could not be confirmed.
