Abstract

The dual role of parents as workers and caregivers of young children requires the ability to manage work demands and family responsibilities simultaneously. An imbalance between these roles may lead to role conflict, which can adversely affect psychological well-being and the effectiveness of parental functioning. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of the Work and Family Conflict Scale (WAFCS) among parents with young children. A non-experimental quantitative design was employed, involving 851 working parents from diverse occupational backgrounds. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with the diagonally weighted least squares estimator, along with internal consistency reliability testing using Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients. The results indicated that the WAFCS demonstrated high internal reliability across both dimensions, with coefficients exceeding 0.70. The two-factor structure was supported by the majority of model fit indices. All items exhibited adequate factor loadings, with a minimum value of 0.59, and the average variance extracted exceeded the recommended threshold of 0.50, indicating good convergent validity. These findings suggest that the Indonesian version of the WAFCS is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing work–family role conflict among parents with young children.
