Abstract
Emotion regulation is the process of managing feelings and emotions, enabling individuals to maintain emotional stability and clear, adaptive thinking when experiencing emotional responses. It plays an important role in helping individuals manage psychological stress, particularly among the sandwich generation who carry dual roles and responsibilities within family life. The participants of this study consisted of 144 sandwich generation individuals aged 25–60 years. This study employed a quantitative research approach using incidental sampling. The research instruments included the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure emotion regulation strategies, namely cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, and the stress subscale of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42) to assess stress levels. Data were analyzed using SPSS software through multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that the cognitive reappraisal strategy of emotion regulation had a significant negative effect on stress among the sandwich generation (p < 0.001) and contributed 24.6% to the variance in stress, whereas the expressive suppression strategy did not show a significant effect on stress.
