Abstract

Psychological well-being is a crucial indicator of individuals’ quality of life, reflecting positive psychological functioning such as a sense of meaning, life satisfaction, and the ability to perform daily roles effectively. The phenomenon of multiple role demands experienced by working mothers presents psychological challenges in both formal and informal employment sectors. This study aimed to examine differences in psychological wellbeing between working mothers employed in the formal and informal sectors. A quantitative comparative method was employed, involving 747 working mothers, consisting of 433 mothers in the formal sector and 314 mothers in the informal sector, selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using the Flourishing Scale (α = 0.87) and analyzed using an Independent Samples T-test. The results indicated a significant difference in psychological wellbeing between the two groups (p < 0.05), with working mothers in the formal sector demonstrating higher mean scores (M = 46.91) compared to those in the informal sector (M = 44.10). These findings suggest that working mothers in the formal sector exhibit better psychological well-being than those in the informal sector and highlight that workplace characteristics in each sector contribute to the psychological well-being of working mothers
