Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Task-Based Learning (TBL) in English language teaching at SMAN 1 Sooko and to explore students’ perceptions of its use. It also highlights the Mystery Soundscape technique as an instructional technique that enriches TBL while maintaining its core principles. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data. The data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and a close-ended Likert-scale questionnaire, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that TBL was implemented through various teaching techniques that promoted active student engagement. Furthermore, most students expressed positive perceptions of TBL, particularly in improving their understanding of the material and their participation in English learning activities.
