Abstract

Background : Academic stress is a student's response to demanding school or university requirements that cause discomfort, tension, and behavioral changes. Stress is the most common risk factor for Tension Type Headaches (TTH).
Aim : To determine the relationship between academic stress levels and complaints of tension-type headaches in first-year and second-year undergraduate physiotherapy students at UMM.
Method : This study used an observational analytical research design with a crosssectional approach. The study was conducted at GKB V Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang in September-October 2025. The sample consisted of 158 students selected using purposive sampling from 266 students. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation test.
Result : Pearson's correlation analysis yielded a p-value of 0.228 (p ≥ 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no relationship between academic stress levels and complaints of tension-type headaches among first-year and second-year physiotherapy students at UMM.
Conclusion : There is no relationship between academic stress levels and complaints of tension-type headaches among first-year and second-year physiotherapy students at UMM.
