Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between upper limb muscle strength and hand grip strength with speed in amputee soccer players. The background of this study is that amputee soccer differs from normal soccer in that amputee soccer players use crutches as mobility assistance, thus requiring upper limb muscle strength and hand grip strength to support every movement on the field, including increasing player speed. The research method used was observational analytical research with a cross-sectional study design. The total sample in this research consisted of 30 amputee soccer athletes from the PERSAMA Malang, INAF PERSAS Surabaya, and PERSAID Jember amputee soccer clubs who met the inclusion criteria for the study. Hand grip strength data was measured using a handgrip dynamometer, and upper limb muscle strength was measured using a push-up test. The results showed that there was a relationship between handgrip strength and speed. However, upper extremity muscle strength in general was not significantly related to speed.
