Abstract
ABSTRACT
Background : Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by abnormally high blood glucose levels. According to the WHO, it is the leading cause of several serious health conditions, such as blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and lower limb amputations. In 2012, 2.2 million deaths were caused by high blood glucose. Several factors can affect blood sugar levels, including physical activity, which is one of the recommended non-pharmacological therapies for diabetes patients.
Research Method : This research uses an observational type with a cross sectional design. The sample used was 30 elderly people using univariate and bivariate data analysis techniques. Bivariate analysis used the Shapiro Wilk normality test and the correlation test used the Spearman test.
Results : Based on the Spearman test, it shows that the relationship between physical activity levels and blood sugar levels in the elderly has a sig value of 0.914 > 0.05, so the conclusion obtained is that H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected. The correlation coefficient sig result is 0.021, which means that the level of correlation strength between the relationship variables is very weak.
Conclusion : There is no relationship between physical activity and blood sugar levels in the elderly.
