Abstract

This study discussed the application of lean production to improve the performance of the production line at PT. Espe Kristal Bahari, a salt manufacturing company. The purpose of this research was to identify dominant wastes in the production process and propose improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. The scope of the study focused on the consumption salt production line, covering processes from raw material handling to packaging. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and production data analysis, and were analyzed using Lean Manufacturing tools, including Borda Count Method, Value Stream Mapping, fishbone diagram, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. The results showed that the most dominant wastes affecting production performance were defects, unnecessary processes, and waiting time. Proposed improvements successfully reduced production lead time from 138,210 seconds to 96,890 seconds, mainly by minimizing waiting time caused by machine breakdowns. The analysis also indicated that scheduled preventive maintenance, improved work methods, better material inspection, and enhanced supervision were critical actions. In conclusion, the implementation of lean production principles effectively reduced waste and improved the overall performance of the production line.
