Abstract
Adolescent obesity is one of the most concerning public health issues due to its increasing prevalence and long-term health impacts. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing obesity among adolescents at SMA Lab UM Malang. This research employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 82 students selected through purposive sampling with inclusion criteria of having a Body Mass Index (BMI) value greater than 25. The independent variables in this study were age, gender, and physical activity, while the dependent variable was BMI. Data collection involved body weight and height measurements, along with questionnaires on age, gender, and physical activity using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the influence of the independent variables on BMI. The results showed that age, gender, and physical activity had significant effects on adolescent obesity. These findings suggest the need for early lifestyle interventions through promotive and preventive efforts to develop effective obesity prevention programs among adolescents, particularly for at-risk targets, namely younger adolescents, females, and individuals with low physical activity levels.
