Abstract
Background: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is a cardiovascular emergency caused by sudden myocardial ischemia due to an imbalance between oxygen supply and demand. According to the 2022 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS), the prevalence of AMI is 2.13%. Prompt restoration of obstructed blood flow remains the main therapeutic priority. Antiplatelet agents are commonly used to re-establish perfusion by preventing platelet aggregation, thereby reducing arterial blockage in atherosclerosis patients.
Objective: To determine the usage pattern of antiplatelet combination therapy use in hospitalized patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction at Dr. Mohamad Soewandhie General Hospital Surabaya.
Methods: A descriptive observational study with retrospective data collection was conducted in the inpatient unit of Dr. Mohamad Soewandhie General Hospital Surabaya from June 1 to August 31, 2025.
Results and Conclusion: The results of the study that dual antiplatelet therapy was the most commonly used regimen, accounting for 115 patterns (70%). The most frequently used dual therapy pattern was Aspirin MD (1 × 100 mg) orally + Clopidogrel MD (1 × 75 mg) orally, totaling 29 patterns (25%). Additionally, 50 patterns (30%) involved therapy switching.
