Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of motor stimulation on improving the fine motor skills of children with Down syndrome. The research subject was a 15-year-old student at an inclusive junior high school in Malang City who exhibited characteristics of Down syndrome. This study was an experiment with a single case subject using an A-B-A design. The A-B-A research design was divided into three stages, namely baseline, intervention, and follow-up. The purpose of the intervention was to stimulate fine motor skills in the research subject. Changes in ability after the intervention were measured using instruments developed by the researcher based on the theory of fine motor skills. The intervention lasted for seven sessions with activities such as assembling puzzles, tracing, writing in guided boxes, cutting according to patterns, pasting collages, beading, and moving beads using tweezers. The results of the study showed that motor stimulation can improve fine motor skills, as indicated by the use of tools, eye-hand coordination, movement accuracy, and independence. Researchers are advised to develop interventions with a variety of games, adjust the duration of the intervention according to the abilities of the subjects, and involve support from the school environment and parents.
