Abstract
Students in developing regions such as Banyuwangi Regency still face career uncertainty due to limited job opportunities, intense competition, and the increasing demand for effective career decision-making skills, which affect their perspectives and optimism regarding their future careers. This study aims to examine the effect of Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) on Career Optimism among university students in Banyuwangi. The research uses a quantitative approach with 147 undergraduate students (minimum fifth semester) selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale and the Career Futures Inventory (career optimism dimension). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicated that CDMSE had a positive and significant effect on career optimism. Further analysis showed that the self-appraisal and planning dimensions significantly predicted career optimism, while goal selection, problem solving, and occupational information did not. These findings highlight the importance of self-understanding and career planning in fostering students’ career optimism.
