Abstract
The background : This study is an adaptive sport with high physical demands due to the use of crutches and asymmetric biomechanical loads. This condition increases the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, both in the lower and upper extremities. To date, scientific data on injury patterns and characteristics in amputee soccer athletes in Indonesia is still limited. Objective: This study aims to analyze the percentage of injury incidence, injury location, injury type, and injury severity in amputee soccer athletes in Indonesia. Purpose : This study aims to analyze the percentage of injury incidents, location of injury, type of injury, and severity of injury in amputee soccer athletes in Indonesia. Methods : This study used a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 38 amputee soccer athletes from the Indonesian National Team and INAF clubs in Surabaya, Malang, Jember, Banyuwangi, and Madura. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Health Questionnaire (OSTRC-H2). Data analysis was conducted descriptively and presented in the form of frequencies and percentages. Results : Most athletes experienced minor health problems during training or competition (58%), while 29% of athletes reported no problems. The most common injury locations were the knee (39%), thigh (34%), wrist (34%), and ankle (31%). The most common type of injury was sprain (55%), followed by abrasion (42%), bruising (31%), and strain (5%). Most injuries were classified as mild to moderate. Conclusion: This study concludes that the injury rate among amputee soccer athletes in Indonesia is quite high, with a predominance of minor injuries to the lower and upper extremities related to crutch use. These findings underscore the importance of a physiotherapy-based injury prevention program that emphasizes training load management, proper crutch use technique, and muscle strengthening and stabilization.
