Abstract

Background : Language development is a process by which children develop in terms of receptivity and expression. Receptive language is included in fine motor skills, and this refers to the ability to understand what is seen and heard. Fine motor skills involve skills such as writing, speaking, eating, drinking, and other similar activities. Good language development is believed to potentially influence children's oral motor coordination, especially in the context of speaking, eating, chewing, and drinking. This study aims to examine the relationship between language development and verbal-motor coordination in children at As Salam Preschool in Malang City.
Research Methods : This study used a cross-sectional study approach to analyze the relationship between language development and oral motor coordination in children at As Salam Preschool in Malang City. A sample of 30 respondents was determined by purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using the Preschool Language Scale Fifth Edition (PLS-5) questionnaire to measure language development and the Child Oral and Motor Proficiency Scale (ChOMPS) to measure oral motor coordination. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test to identify the relationship between language development and oral motor coordination in children.
Results : The results of the study obtained a value of 0.011 (p<0.05) which indicates that there is a relationship between language development and oral motor coordination in children at As Salam Preschool in Malang City.
Conclusion : It was concluded that there is a relationship between language development and oral motor coordination in children at As Salam in Malang City.
