Abstract
Background : The increasingly intensive use of laptops among university students is potentially associated with various health complaints, one of which is tension-type headache (TTH). TTH is the most common type of primary headache and is influenced by multiple factors. However, the relationship between the duration of laptop use and the occurrence of TTH among students remains inconsistent.
Objective : To determine the relationship between the duration of laptop use and the occurrence of tension-type headache among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Method : This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 100 students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, class of 2023–2024, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a laptop usage duration questionnaire and the Headache Screening Questionnaire (HSQ), and analyzed using the Chi-square test.
Results : Most respondents had a moderate duration of laptop use (2–4 hours/day). The prevalence of tension-type headache was found in 21% of respondents. The Chi-square analysis showed a p-value of 0.188 (p>0.05).
Conclusion : There was no significant relationship between the duration of laptop use and the occurrence of tension-type headache among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
