Abstract
Traffic-related dust exposure is an environmental health risk that may affect lung function, particularly among outdoor workers such as traffic control volunteers (Sukarelawan Pengatur Lalu Lintas / SUPELTAS). This study aimed to determine the relationship between the duration of dust exposure and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) among SUPELTAS in Lowokwaru District, Malang City. An analytic correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 respondents selected through total sampling. The duration of dust exposure was obtained using a questionnaire, while FVC was measured using spirometry based on standard operating procedures. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality and the Spearman Rho correlation test for bivariate analysis. The results showed that most respondents had FVC values below 80% of the predicted value, indicating a restrictive lung function pattern. The Spearman Rho analysis revealed a weak positive correlation between dust exposure duration and FVC (r = 0.143) with a p-value of 0.450, indicating no statistically significant relationship. In conclusion, the duration of dust exposure was not significantly associated with FVC among SUPELTAS in Lowokwaru District. These findings suggest that factors other than exposure duration, such as smoking habits, age, and length of employment, may play a more substantial role in influencing lung function.
