Abstract
Background: Falls are a major health problem among older adults and often lead to physical injury, loss of independence, and decreased quality of life. In addition to physical decline, psychological factors such as anxiety are increasingly recognized as contributors to fall risk. Anxiety may affect balance, concentration, and movement confidence in the elderly; however, its role in fall risk is still underexplored, particularly at the community level.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and fall risk among elderly individuals in Kota Malang.
Method: This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 80 elderly participants aged ≥60 years were selected using purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS), while fall risk was measured using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Data were analyzed using correlation analysis to determine the relationship between anxiety level and fall risk.
Result: The findings showed that most participants experienced moderate levels of anxiety and low to moderate fall risk. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between anxiety levels and fall risk, indicating that higher anxiety was associated with increased risk of falling among the elderly.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between anxiety levels and fall risk in older adults. Anxiety should be considered an important factor in fall prevention through comprehensive physiotherapy interventions
