Abstract
Background : Language development in early childhood is not only related to
communication skills but also may influence physiological functions such as
respiratory rate. When children learn to speak and regulate their speech, control over
breathing becomes essential because speaking requires proper breath regulation.
Therefore, good language development is believed to potentially affect the respiratory
rate in children, especially in the context of breath control during speaking or conscious
breathing. This study aims to investigate the relationship between language
development and respiratory rate in children at As-Salam Preschool in Malang City
Research Methods : This study used a cross-sectional design to analyze the
relationship between language development and respiratory rate in children at As-
Salam Preschool in Malang City. The sample consisted of 30 respondents selected by
purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Preschool Language Scale Fifth
Edition (PLS-5) questionnaire to measure language development and a stopwatch to
measure respiratory rate. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test to
identify the relationship between language development and respiratory rate
in the children.
Results : The study founded a p-value of 0,805 (p>0,05), indicating no significant
relationship between language development and respiratory rate in children at As-
Salam Preschool in Malang City.
Conclusion : It was concluded that there is no significant relastionship between
language development and respiratory rate in children at As-Salam Preschool in
Malang City.
