Abstract
This study aims to describe women's empowerment based on social capital through the Sakura Waste Bank Unit in PKK RW 4, Tlekung Village, Junrejo District, Batu City, as an effort to increase women's role in environmental management at the community level. Women's empowerment is an important aspect of community development, especially in areas facing waste problems due to landfill overcapacity. The Sakura Waste Bank, initiated by PKK RW 4 in 2018, has become a platform for women, especially housewives who do not have special skills, to actively participate in waste management while gaining economic and social benefits. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive qualitative data analysis model (Miles & Huberman). The results of the study show that the empowerment of women through the Sakura Waste Bank is based on social capital, which includes trust, norms, and social networks. Trust between residents and transparency in management are the foundations of consistent participation. The norms of mutual cooperation and the attitude of "giving in" strengthen solidarity in the implementation of the program. Internal social networks through PKK forums and tahlilan, as well as external networks with the Environmental Agency (DLH) and universities (UB, UMM, UM), support the sustainability of the program. The empowerment that occurs includes increased environmental awareness, waste management skills, additional economic income, and the strengthening of women's roles in decision-making and community leadership.
