Abstract

This study examines the self-resilience of officers at the Class I Correctional Institution in Malang City in an effort to build social functioning. As part of the correctional system, correctional officers face high work demands, psychological pressure, and complex social dynamics in carrying out their duties and functions. These conditions require officers to be able to adapt, manage stress, and maintain optimal social and professional roles. Therefore, this study aims to describe the forms of self-resilience possessed by correctional officers, explain the social functioning built through self-resilience, and identify supports and obstacles in realizing such self-resilience. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of six purposively selected officers at the Class I Correctional Institution in Malang City. The results show that officers possess various forms of self-resilience, including self-efficacy, emotional regulation, cognitive flexibility, optimism, positive meaning, and social support. Self-resilience plays a role in building the social functioning of correctional officers, as reflected in their ability to carry out professional roles, establish adaptive working relationships, and manage social stress in the workplace. Furthermore, both internal and external supports and barriers influence the process of developing self-resilience and the social functioning of correctional officers.
